Enhancing Executive Functioning

Enhancing Executive Functioning Skills

ADHD tends to impact our brain’s overall “executive function,” which we think of as the brain’s CEO. This important regulator controls such essential functions as:

  • Starting and finishing tasks
  • Prioritizing what needs to be completed first
  • Short-term and long-term planning (including hindsight and forethought, or using the past to guide the future)
  • Inhibiting impulses to say and do what you intend
  • Organizing your space, personal belongings, time and energy
  • Sense of time, as many with ADHD report time-blindness, which includes a tendency to overestimate or underestimate the amount of time it takes to complete a task.

It turns out all these seemingly “little things” ruled by executive function can add up to plenty of big frustrations and misunderstandings in our daily lives. In fact, it’s unfair when people accuse those with ADHD of being tardy, irresponsible or disorganized. By now, we all should realize this is NOT a character flaw. It’s more likely that their brain’s executive function needs a tune-up.

We are happy to provide that help with the latest, tips, tools and suggestions — tailored to fit your individual goals and needs.
